Identity Designer
The client reached out to me wanting a new logo, but wasn’t quite sure what they wanted or how to describe it. Their original logo was hand-drawn and colorful, but they were open to exploring new directions.
Original hand-drawn logo
I started by creating several clean, professional logo concepts to spark conversation and get a feel for their preferences. Surprisingly, they weren’t drawn to the corporate styles and actually preferred the fun, colorful vibe of their original logo. The only element they wanted to keep was the owl — but in a different style.
From there, I shifted focus to craft playful, colorful designs that felt kid-friendly and fresh, reflecting their growing business and the need to make a bigger, lasting impression. The client was attracted to logos using upper and lowercase letters but still felt the overall look wasn’t quite right — the owl needed a more fitting treatment and the color palette was a bit too busy.
Colorful kid-friendly designs
I played around with putting the owl on different letters to see what looked and felt best. Each spot gave the logo a slightly different vibe. We even tried a version without the owl to see how it worked on its own. After checking out all the options, the client and I agreed that having the owl perched on top of the “o” just felt right — balanced, fun, and memorable.
New design, new look...

But actually this became the one
After several tweaks and client feedback, we landed on this final logo with the owl perched on the “o.” It strikes the perfect balance between fun and professional, making the brand feel friendly, memorable, and ready to grow with the business.
New logo
The logo has grown with the preschool’s success. While the typeface was later refreshed, the owl mark remains at the heart of their identity. Most recently, the updated logo was installed as large-scale signage on the facade of their newly acquired building — showing how the design continues to represent the school in the community.
